The business works with several major online marketplaces and processes thousands of transactions each month related to ticket purchases, inventory management, and ticket sales. Malone Painting Malone Painting is a fast-growing residential painting contractor based in St. Louis, Missouri. About the Role We are seeking a Financial Controller who will take responsibility for the financial organization of several growing businesses. This role combines technical accounting expertise, team leadership, and operational problem-solving. The person in this role will oversee accounting operations across multiple companies, lead a small remote accounting team, and ensure that financial information remains accurate, current, and reliable. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys bringing order to complex financial environments, improving systems, and helping organizations operate with better financial clarity. As a result, the accounting function must be both disciplined and adaptable. The Financial Controller will play a central role in building strong accounting practices, maintaining accurate records, and strengthening financial processes as the businesses continue to grow. This position is designed for someone who wants to take ownership of the accounting function and contribute to building a more structured financial operation. Key Responsibilities Accounting Oversight Ensure the financial records for multiple companies are accurate, reconciled, and maintained on a consistent schedule. Responsibilities include: • reconciling bank accounts and credit cards • reviewing accounts receivable and accounts payable • ensuring transactions are recorded correctly • maintaining organized and reliable financial records High transaction volumes require careful attention to reconciliation and detail. Financial Coordination Work with team members across the organization to resolve financial questions and ensure accounting records reflect operational activity accurately. This requires strong communication and the ability to follow up on unresolved items until they are completed. Team Leadership The controller will lead a remote accounting team responsible for various financial processes. Leadership responsibilities include: • assigning and reviewing accounting work • coordinating weekly accounting meetings • monitoring deadlines and deliverables • helping team members resolve complex accounting issues This role requires someone who can guide a team while maintaining accountability for results. Reporting & Financial Visibility Prepare and maintain clear financial information that leadership can rely on to understand the financial position of the businesses. This includes maintaining regular (different weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual) reporting on: • cash balances • reconciliations • accounts receivable and payable • financial statements Process Improvement The company is continually working to improve how financial information is organized and managed. The controller will help identify opportunities to improve workflows, strengthen reporting systems, and introduce tools that make the accounting process more efficient and reliable. Comfort working with technology, automation tools, and evolving financial systems is important. Qualifications Required Experience 7+ years of full charge bookkeeping 5+ years or management or supervisory experience directly overseeing staff • strong knowledge of GAAP accounting principles • QuickBooks Online experience • experience reconciling large transaction volumes • strong Excel or Google Sheets skills • ability to work across multiple entities or business units Preferred • CPA certification or equivalent accounting education • experience with inventory or marketplace-based businesses • familiarity with automation tools or financial dashboards Personal Characteristics The right candidate will be someone who: approaches problems methodically and thoughtfully communicates clearly with team members and leadership takes responsibility for ensuring work is completed properly is comfortable managing complex accounting environments is interested in improving systems rather than simply maintaining them This role requires both technical capability and leadership maturity. Compensation Structure This position begins will pay between $8-12/hour depending on experience. We will start with an introductory 90-day period to evaluate if this is the right long-term fit. Who We’re Looking For • We are seeking reliable, professional subcontractor crews who: • Perform excellent interior and/or exterior prep and painting • Have strong skills in drywall repair, patching, sanding, caulking, and matching surfaces • Can deliver high-quality cabinet refinishing or deck/fence staining (bonus) • Want steady work and the opportunity to grow into top-tier partners over time • Communicate clearly and respectfully with customers and our production managers • Are organized, responsible, and committed to a great customer experience • Show up prepared, protect customer property, and do the job right the first time • Embrace partnership, feedback, and continual improvement Requirements • • Business & Insurance • Must operate as a legitimate business entity (LLC, Corporation, or Sole Proprietor). • Must carry General Liability Insurance. • Must carry Workers’ Compensation or be willing to secure it within 30 days (or meet state exemption requirements). • Experience & Craftsmanship • Strong experience in residential painting (interior & exterior). • Solid prep skills: covering, masking, sanding, caulking, priming, surface repair. • Ability to perform small-to-medium repairs as listed in job scopes. • Ability to meet professional cleanliness and finishing standards. Crew Requirements • Must have at least one fluent English speaker on site daily. • Crews of 2–3 people are ideal, but highly skilled 1-person crews may be accepted for smaller jobs. • Communication & Technology • Must be able to send daily photo updates and communicate using a smartphone. • Must be comfortable receiving job details, updates, and expectations via digital tools. • Schedule & Availability • Available for consistent work (preferred), or partial-schedule partners looking to grow. • Able to start jobs on time and complete them within agreed timeframes. • Professional Standards • Follow work orders precisely — no side work or unapproved extras. • Respect customer property and maintain a clean, safe job site. • Strong commitment to honesty, reliability, and doing the right thing. • Lead-Safe Awareness (Preferred) • Experience with pre-1978 homes is preferred. • RRP certification is a plus; willingness to become certified is required to perform lead-affected work. • Ready to Grow Your Painting Business?
