Sales Estimator

Location: St. Louis, MO.

Malone Painting is seeking a driven Sales Estimator to lead on-site estimating, proposal development, and sales conversion across residential and commercial projects in the greater St. Louis area. This client-facing role blends estimating accuracy with consultative selling to grow revenue while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

As a key member of the sales team, you will conduct site visits, take precise measurements, scope work, prepare competitive proposals, and present recommendations to prospects. You will nurture leads, build relationships, and close opportunities while coordinating closely with production to ensure a smooth handoff and satisfied clients. Success in this role requires strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to pipeline management and follow-up.

Responsibilities include:

• Perform thorough on-site evaluations, measurements, and assessments to develop accurate estimates and scopes of work

• Prepare, present, and explain detailed proposals to homeowners, property managers, and business stakeholders; address questions and objections

• Qualify and convert inbound and outbound leads; manage a robust pipeline to meet monthly and quarterly sales targets

• Proactively generate new opportunities through networking, community engagement, referrals, and local partnerships

• Maintain strong relationships throughout the sales cycle; provide timely updates and ensure expectations are clearly set

• Document activities, proposals, and follow-ups in the CRM; maintain accurate records and forecasting

• Collaborate with production to confirm scope, materials, schedule, and site conditions for a seamless project kickoff

• Conduct competitive and market research to refine pricing, positioning, and value messaging

• Report progress, challenges, and wins to leadership; continuously improve sales effectiveness and close rates

What to expect:

• Predominantly field-based role within the St. Louis metro; regular travel to customer sites

• Balances independent work with team collaboration and structured reporting

• Performance measured by accuracy of estimates, conversion rates, revenue, and customer satisfaction

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience in sales, estimating, or project scoping; painting, coatings, construction, or home improvement industry experience preferred • Proven track record meeting or exceeding sales targets in a consultative, in-person selling environment • Strong estimating capabilities: measurements, takeoffs, scope definition, and pricing methodology • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills with the ability to build rapport quickly • High attention to detail; produces clear, accurate, and complete proposals • Proficiency with CRM systems and estimating or takeoff tools; strong general computer skills (email, spreadsheets, documents) • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within the St. Louis metro area • Self-motivated, organized, and accountable; adept at managing schedules, pipelines, and follow-up activities • Professional appearance and demeanor; customer-first mindset • Ability to lift and carry up to 25–30 lbs, use ladders for basic inspections, and work occasional evenings/weekends as needed for appointments Compensation and benefits: • Competitive base salary plus commission • Weekly pay • Health, dental, and vision insurance • Paid time off (PTO) • 401(k) with company match • Training, tools, and ongoing professional development
