Senior Roofing Superintendent – High-End Roofing & Tesla Solar Roof

Phoenix Exteriors is one of the Midwest’s leading high-end roofing and solar contractors specializing in luxury roofing systems including Tesla Solar Roof, standing seam metal, slate, cedar shake, copper, DaVinci roofing systems, and complex custom residential projects.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Roofing Superintendent / Quality Control Manager to oversee installations, manage subcontractor crews, perform advanced roofing and metal work, and ensure every project meets our quality standards.

This is a field-first leadership position. The ideal candidate will spend nearly all of their time in the field actively managing projects, overseeing crews, solving problems, ensuring quality, and physically assisting with specialty metal and roofing work when needed.

This is NOT a desk project manager role.

Position Overview

This role combines:

• Roofing Superintendent

• Quality Control Manager

• High-End Repair Specialist

• Metal Fabrication & Flashing Specialist

• Crew Leadership

You will oversee roofing installations throughout Chicagoland while working directly with subcontractor crews to ensure projects are completed correctly, efficiently, and to Phoenix Exteriors’ standards.

The ideal candidate is highly experienced in roofing craftsmanship and comfortable leading from the field — not from a desk.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee roofing installations and ensure high-quality workmanship

• Manage and coordinate subcontractor crews (primarily Spanish-speaking)

• Perform field quality control inspections daily

• Diagnose and solve roofing and leak-related issues

• Operate a metal brake and fabricate custom flashings on-site

• Personally perform portions of specialty metal, copper, and detail work when required

• Install and repair:

  • Flashings

  • Chimney details

  • Standing seam components

  • Copper details

  • Specialty transitions

  • Roof penetrations

  • Leak repairs

• Ensure projects are job-ready with proper materials and crew coordination

• Use CRM and company software to document jobs, photos, updates, and notes from the field

• Communicate with office staff through mobile apps, phone, and computer reporting

• Travel periodically to oversee Tesla Solar Roof and specialty projects in other markets

• Work directly with ownership and operations leadership to improve installation quality company-wide

Required Experience

• 10+ years roofing experience preferred

• Bilingual English & Spanish REQUIRED

• Strong experience with:

  • Asphalt shingles

  • Standing seam metal roofing

  • Copper fabrication and flashing work

  • Roof repairs and leak diagnostics

  • Cedar shake roofing

  • Slate roofing systems

  • Custom flashing fabrication

• Experience operating a metal brake and fabricating flashings on-site

• Strong field leadership and crew management skills

• Ability to hold subcontractors accountable to quality standards

• Comfortable using CRM software, mobile apps, photos, and digital reporting tools

• Valid driver’s license

• Ability to occasionally work Saturdays when projects require it

Preferred Experience

• Tesla Solar Roof experience

• High-end residential roofing experience

• Superintendent or foreman experience

• Experience overseeing complex custom roofing projects

• Experience with luxury residential construction
